When beginning an assignment or permanent transfer to a new MI5 office, several setup steps must be completed before your first day to ensure secure access and a smooth transition.
1. Security and Access Setup
You’ll receive a new office access badge, issued by Security Operations once your assignment has been verified by M’s office. Ensure your security clearance and system credentials are active before arrival — badge activation and identity verification will take place on-site at reception.
2. Workspace and Equipment Allocation
Your desk and workstation will be arranged by Facilities Management, including any specific technical setup or communications equipment required for your role. If you’re transferring from another location, ensure your devices are re-enrolled to the new office network before use.
3. Network and System Authorisation
Log in to the local secure network upon arrival and confirm your access to shared drives, classified systems, and communications channels. Any discrepancies should be reported immediately to Technical Security.
4. Orientation and Induction
All new arrivals must complete the Local Induction Programme, which covers building orientation, evacuation routes, and office-specific security procedures. You’ll also be introduced to your local HR and security liaison contacts.
5. Administrative Updates
Confirm your assigned working model (on-site, hybrid, or remote-linked), update your contact information in the HR Portal, and return any outdated access cards from your previous office.
Once these steps are complete, your access will be fully enabled, and you’ll be ready to operate from your new location. Remember: every MI5 site functions under the same confidentiality and security standards, but local procedures may differ slightly — take the time to learn them well.
