Cross-Border Working: Policy for EU-Based Agents

Agents based within the EU may, under limited circumstances, work temporarily from another MI5 office or authorised facility abroad. All cross-border working requires prior approval from M’s office and verification from Legal and Compliance to ensure adherence to host-nation data and employment regulations.
Before departure, agents must submit a Cross-Border Work Notification via the HR Portal, specifying duration, purpose, and access needs. Equipment audits and encryption verification are mandatory prior to travel. While abroad, staff must maintain contact through secure communication channels and adhere to local operational laws.
Cross-border work is intended for short-term assignments or collaborative missions only — long-term relocation requires a separate Posting Agreement and full security re-clearance.
